Varone Falls is one of the great attractions of the high Lake Garda.
For more than 20,000 years, the Varone stream has been carving through the rock, expanding and shaping the cavity within the mountain into a twisted and deep gorge, the sight of which accompanied by the roar of roaring water reverberating off the rock walls, make the visit a unique and unforgettable experience.
Opened in 1874, the Varone Waterfall Grotto Park is located in the Varone locality north of Riva del Garda, in the municipality of Tenno, known mainly for its tiny lake with azure waters.
The perfectly safe and railing-protected path allows one to penetrate into the interior of the mountain from whose sheer walls the powerful waterfall gushes.
The waterfall consists of open levels, the upper cave that goes 73m into the mountain and the lower cave that goes 55m.The total drop of the waterfall is 98m.
Outside between the levels and the external path of approx. 115 steps between the caves, the visit was enhanced by a botanical garden that, thanks to the special microclimate created by the water floating in the air, allows the growth of plants otherwise difficult to find side by side in the same place.
