GARDONE RIVIERA

“Garden City” of the western shore of Lake Garda. It is the town of Gabriele D’Annunzio, who made this municipality his residence after World War II, creating the Vittoriale degli Italiani.

Of ancient origins Gardone dates back at least to the Longobard Middle Ages, as inferred from its name reminiscent of Garda, from the German “warda” meaning fortress. It is today one of the most renowned health resorts. Villas, parks, gardens and picturesque districts line the lush vegetation. Beautiful is the peaceful lakefront, a true living room of the Garda Riviera.

Heller Garden

A paradise garden housing plants from all over the world, which combines nature and art, both of international quality, among sculptures by artists such as Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Erwin Novak, Susanne Schmoegner, and Rudolgh Hirt.

The different groups of plants are connected by a weaving of pathways accompanied by resting corners.
A garden in which different environments are mixed together, but the goal of naturalness and the love of landscape and nature become the element that unites everything.

Vittoriale degli Italiani – Gabriele D’Annunzio

The Vittoriale degli Italiani is a complex of buildings, streets, squares, an open-air theater, gardens and waterways erected between 1921 and 1938 in Gardone Riviera, on the Brescian shore of Lake Garda, by Gabriele d’Annunzio to a design by architect Giancarlo Maroni, in memory of the poet-soldier’s “inimitable life” and the exploits of the Italians during World War I. Often, by synecdoche, that name refers only to d’Annunzio’s house, located within the complex.

The Vittoriale today is a foundation open to the public and visited annually by about 210,000 people.
